Varo’s “Perks” Program Launches to All Cardholders, Powered by Kard

Kard is now powering rewards for all customers at Varo, the first all-digital nationally chartered bank in the US

Concluding a staggered rollout that started in May 2021, the Kard platform is now powering rewards for all customers at Varo, the first all-digital nationally chartered bank in the United States.

“After an overwhelmingly positive response to Perks from early users, we’re thrilled to extend the program to Varo customers everywhere,” says Jaime Jerusalmi, Varo General Manager of Partnerships and Loyalty. “From our best-in-class lineup of participating merchants across all spending categories to our seamless in-app integration, every aspect of Perks is designed to make earning Cashback as straightforward as possible — and we're only just getting started.”

"The Varo partnership tells the archetypal story of Kard’s value,” notes our CEO, Ben MacKinnon. “Varo had a vision for their rewards program, and to execute it they needed someone to run the technical backend, handle merchant relationships, and build a superstructure on which they could overlay the unique Varo experience. We’re excited for Varo’s success as one of our key customers in our target market."

Varo’s Perks platform is relatively straightforward. Swipe your Varo card, earn cashback, get an automatic deposit into your Varo bank account after you’ve earned at least $5. While other Kard issuer partners experiment with everything from cryptocurrency to a lottery system, Varo is sticking with what they call a “radically simple” rewards program that helps cardholders save money automatically, without any extra steps. What’s more, it allows Varo’s debit card users access to a credit-card-like cashback program without the hassle of qualifying for and signing up for a potentially expensive credit card.

Kard’s democratization of the rewards space means that more and more banks and card issuers will be able to launch bespoke card loyalty solutions. We’re scaling our platform for a bigger and bigger network of cardholders every day, and we’re building a streamlined integration process that allows issuers of all types and sizes to get on board quickly. Stay tuned for the next custom issuer solution.
